Latest, and only, bear painting

I’ve had this painting, half-finished, hanging on my wall for months now. Basically only the the shapes were blocked it, but you could see plenty of bare canvas (pun intended). So last night I bit the bullet and painted the heck out of it. I may go back to the nose area and clean up the edges, but for the most part it’s done. At least it is no longer a constant reminder of an unfinished project.

I never been a red/pink/purple kind of girl. Even as a kid when playing with Barbie dolls, I didn’t get why everything had to be hot pink. Fortunately, the fashion industry has evolved from the ’80′s, and Barbie along with it.

Along those lines, I recently discovered butter LONDON nail polish and was attracted to their lovely colors. Beside the non-toxic formula (made without the use of the harmful ingredients like Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP or Parabens) the colors are gorgeous and beautifully compliment skin tones. I’ve put together some eye-pleasing color palette’s from their product list below.

Developing my new site!

This is the 3rd generation of my personal portfolio site since graduating college, and this time, I chose the 800 lb. CMS gorilla, WordPress. As a newbie to PHP I have encountered many pitfalls along the way, but I’m proud to say I created my own custom theme using dynamic content when functionally appropriate! I even, for better or for worse, incorporated HTML5. Thus far, my site is far from complete, and everyday I see something else I want to make dynamic or a design element I’d like to rework. In the future I’d even like to incorporate some nifty animated javascript!

For anyone interested in learning how to develop their own WordPress theme, I would highly recommend subscribing to Lynda.com and checking out Chris Coyier’s training tutorial. He goes over the nuts and bolts of developing a theme and has many other useful design tips for beginners. Just do that, and have a husband who’s a brilliant engineer, who can decipher just about any programming language, even though he never went to school for it, and you’ll be set!
